57th
& Drexel Project, 2006 From 2003 until 2006 I documented the demolition of two blocks of century-old brick and greystone apartments and homes at the intersection of East 57th Street and South Drexel Avenue in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Included in this demolition was an apartment building that I lived in from 2003-2005 named Deronda. This series touches intimately on the themes of home and safety that are at the foundation of my artistic goals. This project was partially supported by a Community Arts Assistance Program grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. |
